Tango Takes Face-To-Face Video Calling

One of the best built-in iPhone 4 FaceTime is the video call feature that lets you see who you're talking about using cameras on both phones. But it only works on WiFi and if both callers have an iPhone 4. Perhaps these limitations are the reason for an application called Tango is the seventh most popular social networking application at this time (iTunes link).

Tango allows you to make video calls not only on the iPhone, but also on Android phones, and works on 3G data as well. Works on both 4 and iPhone 3G, and even iPod touch. It 'grew like crazy on both IOS and Android, the addition of one million downloads every two weeks. Over the past three months, has grown from about 1 million downloads in 8 million euro (see table. Of these, 7.2 million registered users has become, and 42 percent (approximately 3 million euro) made a video call over the last 30 days.

Tango has provided us with some other statistics on its use and growth as well. About 2.6 million people have downloaded the application following a direct invitation, with 45 percent of the calls resulting download. The average length of a video call is 4 minutes. The downloads are divided equally between IOS and Android, and 60 percent of calls over 3G or 4G data network instead of WiFi. (What you are listening to Apple / AT & T / Verizon?) Although the United States is the biggest country single for the tango, the majority of members (55 percent) live outside the United States and half of the first 10 countries (South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore) are in Asia.
